Intelligent Sprain-free Sport Shoe
Ankle ligamentous sprain is the most common sport-related injury. The Sport Performance and Biomechanics Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong developed a corrective mechanism to protect the ankle after substantial review on sport injury pattern and investigation of injury mechanism of ankle sprain injury.
The team adopted a 3-step mechanism which includes (1) Sensing, (2) Identification, and (3) Correction to develop their invention - the intelligent sprain-free sport shoe.
The intelligent sprain-free sport shoe is being evaluated in laboratory trials on a mechanical sprain simulation device, and later in a large-scale epidemiology study on clinical effectiveness. The device is hoped to be commercialized to a innovative sport apparel which is affordable and useful to soccer and basketball players, and perhaps the 50,000 runners in the annual Marathon race.
