East Asian School of Information Theory (EASIT) 2014

CINTEC has supported Prof. Sidharth Jaggi, Associate Professor, Department of Information Engineering, to host the East Asian School of Information Theory (EASIT) 2014. The EASIT 2014 was held on 7-11 July 2014, in CUHK campus. CINTEC provided comprehensive logistics services, from event preparation to onsite support to ensuring smooth and professional delivery of the international event. Over 50 participants came to CUHK campus to attend this workshop.

 

CUHK ACTIVITY

ERGAA Annual General Meeting and Career Sharing Seminar

Prof. K.F. Wong, represented the Faculty of Engineering, gave a speech to alumni and students in Engineering Faculty Alumni Association (ERGAA) Annual General Meeting and Career Sharing Seminar on 28 June, 2014.

 

OUTREACH ACTIVITY

HKIE Hi-Tech Fiesta 2014

Prof. K.F. Wong, represented the Faculty of Engineering, attended the HKIE Hi-Tech Fiesta 2014 on 8 June 2014. The Fiesta, themed “High Gear for New Technology, a Mindset for Change” was an event organized by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineer. Two teams of CUHK students won the champion and the first runner-up in the Joint Institutes Competition respectively.

 

Taiwan Field Studies 2014 and Meeting with Representatives of Master Concept

Prof. K.F. Wong led engineering students to Taiwan for the Field Studies 2014 on 10-13 June 2014. During the trip, Prof. Wong managed to visit the potential projects investors of Master Concept at Taipei on 12 June 2014. The meeting was to discuss the development of IT industry in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

 

European Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Discussion

On 26 June 2014, Prof. C.H. Cheng, Deputy Director of CINTEC, presented ‘Smart City Developments in Hong Kong and Europe’ in the breakfast discussion hosted by the ICT Business Council of The European Chamber of Commerce.

 

National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou 國家超級計算廣州中心應用推廣大會

Prof. K.F. Wong visited National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou and attended its seminar on 29 June 2014. The seminar was organized by Ministry of Science and Technology, People’s Government of Guangdong Providence and People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality to promote the applications of National Supercomputing Center.

 

VIP Station at Guangzhou 高校專家走進唯品會課題講座周

Prof. C.H. Cheng, Deputy Director of CINTEC, was invited to present a talk on the seminar hosted by VIP Station on 17 July 2014.

 

中國的探月工程專題講座及交流晚宴

Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, attended the networking dinner hosted by Hong Kong Information Technology Joint Council and discussed technology using in space exploration with the representatives of China National Space Administration.

 

ITSC

CUHK Eco Tour for Bui O Public School

ITSC has supported Bui O Public School to organize a CUHK Eco Tour for 50 students on 3 July 2014. Prof. K.F. Wong represented CUHK to welcome the participants. ITSC arranged several visits, such as House of Swift Nesting and Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC), and provided onsite support.

 

Summer Technology Visits and Workshop

ITSC has arranged over 10 technology visits for members during the summer holiday. Four visits, including MoCC, Satellite Remote Sensing Ground Receiving Station, Internet of Things and Hongkong International Terminals, attracted over 60 participants. Also, with the support of Department of Biochemistry, 20 members attended the DNA Fingerprint Workshop.

 

Summer camp

ITSC has organized summer camp for members since 2009. This year, a four-day summer camp was held on 28-31 July 2014. Over 30 members joined the event. With 12 CUHK students as mentors and hostel in C.W. Chu College, participants were able to experience student life in university. Members participated in a various kind of activities, such as Dialogue with Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Sung, 3D Printing Workshop, Stargazing, Youth Festival Competition…
