Croucher Summer Course in Information Theory (CSCIT) 2015

CINTEC has supported Prof. Sidharth Jaggi, Associate Professor, Department of Information Engineering, to host the Croucher Summer Course in Information Theory 2015. The CSCIT 2015 was held in CUHK campus on 8-12 June 2015, a week before ISIT2015. CINTEC provided comprehensive logistics services, from event preparation to onsite support to ensuring smooth and professional delivery of the international event. Around 70 participants came to CUHK campus to attend this workshop.

International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT) 2015

The International Symposium on Information Theory 2015 was held in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 14-19 June this year. CINTEC has supported Prof. Raymond Yeung, Professor, Department of Information Engineering, to organize the conference.

 

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

UK Trade and Investment

Ms. Karin Rancuret Jessica Tait visited CINTEC on 17 June 2015. Mr. K.Y. Leung, Associate Director of CINTEC, had a meeting with Ms. Tait to explore possibility of collaborations, and internship opportunities for Engineering students.

Delegation from Huawei Summer Camp

CINTEC supported Office of Academic Links and Hong Kong Productivity Council to receive a group of international students, who are originated from Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe, on 15 July 2015. Prof. K.F. Wong introduced Faculty of Engineering to them and arranged 2 laboratory tours to provide up-to-date technology information to the young students.

 

CUHK ACTIVITY

Delegation Trip to Shanghai and Hangzhou

Prof. K.F. Wong, represented Faculty of Engineering, joined the delegation trip led by Prof. Joseph Sung to Shanghai on 15-17 Jun 2015. The delegates visited New York University Shanghai, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Fudan University.

Opening Ceremony of CUHK Summer Research Placement Programme 2015

The CUHK Summer Research Placement Programme provided research placement opportunity and training to Mainland China and Taiwan students. Prof. K.F. Wong was one of the supporting professors and attended the captioned event on 29 June 2015 in CUHK campus.

 

OUTREACH ACTIVITY

Hong Kong ICT Mission to US and Canada

Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, represented CUHK to join the Hong Kong ICT Mission to US and Canada, organized by Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Hong Kong Information Technology Joint Council, on 3-8 June 2015. The Hong Kong delegates visited several companies and representatives from US ICT industry to explore possible collaborations.

新媒體工作實習計劃

30 students from 8 universities in Hong Kong joined the captioned programme to have a 2-week internship in the ICT companies in Beijing. Prof. K.F. Wong was invited to lead the students to Beijing on 12-14 July 2015 and visited the supporting companies.

GCIO Welcome Lunch

Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, was invited to attend the CGIO Welcome Reception on 25 July 2015.

i100 iNurturing Programme - Mobile Applications Design Contest cum Closing Ceremony

To celebrate students’ effort to use the computers as learning tools, the captioned event was held on 25 July 2015. In this 2nd i100 iNurturing Programme , 100 students had fulfilled a series of trainings to learn the making of mobile apps after they have received the donated computers last year.

 

ITSC

Summer Technology Visits and Workshop

ITSC has arranged several technology visits for members during the summer holiday. The 2 visits in July, including Cathay Cit and Satellite Remote Sensing Ground Receiving Station, attracted over 50 participants. Also, with the support of Department of Biochemistry, 19 members attended the DNA Fingerprint Workshop.

Summer camp

To give an opportunity to ITSC members to experience student life in university, ITSC has organized a 3-day summer camp themed ‘Behind the surfaces’ on 28-30 July 2015. Over 30 members joined the event. This year, various kinds of activities for participants were arranged, such as CU Hunt, DIY Workshop, and Movie Night. Committee members also created a story line for all summer camp programmes to introduce the concept of ‘parallel universe’.

 

6 Arts

「中國傳統文化藝術與機械人的融合」創意比賽

CINTEC and Hong Kong Technology Education Association co-organized the captioned competition on 4 July 2015. 67 teams of students from secondary and primary schools in Hong Kong joined the competition. The competition was divided into 6 categories – Six Arts (Rites, Music, Archery, Charioteering, Calligraphy or Mathematics). Students are required to design and build robots which are related to Six Arts. The competition was successfully held to develop students’ interest and knowledge of science, technology, literature and art.
