You are cordially invited to attend the Sustainable Engineering Seminar titled “Photovoltaic Solar Energy: Roles in Global Energy Resources” by Prof. XIAO Xudong of the Department of Physics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.Abstract:
Energy and environment are critical issues for the sustainable development of our modern society. Renewable energy, in particular photovoltaic solar energy, will play an increasingly important role in addressing our energy and environmental needs. In the current worldwide effort to reduce harmful emissions from energy systems and to strengthen the industrial basis, renewable energy technologies provide clear opportunities for our country to establish a competitive edge in a highly innovative industrial sector and thus also to create new skilled jobs.

In this talk, Prof. Xiao will first describe how solar energy can be used to tackle the energy and environmental problems. He will then review the device principles and the current status of various Photovoltaic technologies. He will also present CUHK research progress in Cu(InGa)Se2 thin film solar cells.
