PIP

Promotion Booth

CINTEC set a booth to promote PIP on 11-12 September 2014 at 5/F., Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building. The booth was for introducing PIP services, such as job hunting platform, recruitment talks, career counseling and entrepreneurship to all engineering students.

Recruitment Talks

In September, first term just started, five recruitment talks were held, included Deloitte for graduates, and Cyberport for various incubation programmes. They attracted over 40 students to attend respectively. More recruitment talks will be held in October and November for engineering students.

Hong Kong Disneyland Summer Intern Celebration

Prof. K.F. Wong represented Faculty of Engineering, CUHK to attend the Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) Summer Intern Celebration 2014 at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel on 27 August 2014. Four students of CUHK joined the Professional Internship this summer and learnt a lot through working in different positions. Prof. Wong was invited to celebrate the moment with interns, HKDL executives and managers.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency

To investigate possibility of collaboration, representatives of Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency visited CINTEC on 2 September 2014. They discussed with Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, and Mr. K.Y. Leung, Associate Director of CINTEC, regarding the development of IT industry in Hong Kong and Korea.

Hong Kong Electronics Industry Council, Federation of Hong Kong Industries Delegation Visit

CINTEC received a delegation from Hong Kong Electronics Industry Council, Federation of Hong Kong Industries (HKEIC, FHKI). Around 20 industrial representatives visited Faculty of Engineering, CUHK on 25 September 2014. CINTEC arranged 5 laboratory tours / project demonstrations, included Surgical Robotic System; Lab-On-A-Disc; Virtual Anatomy, Visualization and Imaging Researches; Applications of RFID and Network Coding for Next Generation Internet.

CUHK ACTIVITY

Pi Centre Opening Ceremony

Prof. C.H. Cheng, Deputy Director of CINTEC attended the Opening Ceremony of Pi Centre on 19 September 2014 at Lady Ho Tung Hall. Pi Centre aims to stimulate creativity and entrepreneurship by providing various services to CUHK students. Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, and Mr. K.Y. Leung, Associate Director of CINTEC, are members of the steering committee of Pi Centre (http://acehub.hk/picentre).

OUTREACH ACTIVITY

ISACA China HK Chapter CPD Seminar in HK

Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, was invited by the ISACA China HK Chapter to be the speaker of CPD Seminar on 12 August 2014. In the joint seminar with BCS HK, Prof. Wong presented a talk themed, “Do You Trust Information in the Big Data Era?”, which included an introduction of the concept of big data and the problem of data credibility, and a presentation of CUHK’s research works in this area.

2014 ASTRI Industry and University Consultation Forum (Hong Kong)

The 2014 ASTRI Industry and University Consultation Forum was held on 3 September 2014. Prof. K.F. Wong represented Faculty of Engineering to attend the IUCF (HK) programme. The programme included a kick-off ceremony and a panel discussion session themed “Advancing I&T through collaboration among Academia, R&D Centres and Industry”.

The Hong Kong Chinese Importers’ & Exporters’ Association – Outstanding Import & Export Enterprise Awards 2014

The Outstanding Import & Export Enterprise Awards 2014, organized by Hong Kong Chinese Importers’ & Exporters’ Association (HKCIEA), was held on 5 September 2014. Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, was invited to be the judge. The assessment has been completed successfully. The award presentation ceremony is scheduled on 30 October 2014.

LSCM Logistics Summit 2014

Prof. C.H. Cheng, Deputy Director of CINTEC, was invited to be the speaker of LSCM Logistics Summit 2014, which was held at Hong Kong Science Park on 18 September 2014. Prof. Cheng presented on “Logistics Management Systems using RFID-based Tracking & Sensing” in the technology seminar themed “IoT Infrastructural Technologies in the Modernisation of HK’s Logistics Industry”.

「卓育菁莪」生涯規劃講座 (Career Planning Talk)

Prof. K.F. Wong represented Faculty of Engineering to deliver a talk at Chan Nam Chong Memorial College on 24 September 2014.

Visits to Beijing

Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, visited Beijing on 28-30 September 2014. He visited several universities, Peking University (PKU), Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and University of International Relations (UIR) for student recruitment. Research collaboration with MoE Key Laboratory (PKU) was also conducted.

Cyberport Speaker Series

CINTEC was one the supporting organizations of Cyberport Speaker Series: The Billion Dollar Wearable Technologies. CINTEC helped to promote this signature event of Cyberport. Speakers and experts from different industries were invited to join the seminar on 30 September 2014.

ITSC

Technology Visits

Innovation and Technology Student Club (ITSC) has arranged more than 10 technology visits for members during summer holiday. In August, over 80 members joined the visits to ASTRI, Cyberport, Zero Carbon Building, Civil Aviation Department, CLP Green Plus Resort and BYD (Shenzhen).

Social Gathering

Reunion of ITSC Summer Camp 2014 was held on 26 August 2014. Campers and their mentors of the summer camp joined the gathering at Tseung Kwan O and they all enjoyed the precious moments.
