EXHIBITION

International ICT Expo 2014

CINTEC coordinated CUHK’s participation in International ICT Expo at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 13-16 April 2014. 13 research projects and 5 undergraduate students’ smartphone apps were showcased in a 36 square meters booth. (left photo)

Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair (MDSF) 2014

MDSF concurrently held with the Hospital Authority Convention on 7-9 May 2014 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. CINTEC coordinated 5 CUHK research teams to participate in this Fair. CONFERENCE

Big Data Workshop

CINTEC has supported Prof K.F. Wong to host the 2014 Big Data Workshop, held on 22-23 April 2014, in CUHK campus. CINTEC provided comprehensive logistics services, from event preparation to onsite support to ensuring smooth and professional delivery of the international event. Over 100 participants came to CUHK campus to attend this workshop.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

Asian Robotics League

Representatives of Asian Robotics League visited CINTEC on 2 April 2014. They had a discussion with Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC and Mr. K.Y. Leung, Associate Director of CINTEC on the development of Information and Technology industry.

CUHK ACTIVITY

Plaque Presentation Ceremony of ‘Intel Embedded Systems Research Center’

Department of Computer Science and Engineering received donations from Intel Corporation, they are HKD 14 million worth of embedded systems development boards and related software licenses. The ‘Intel Embedded Systems Research Center’ which led by Prof. Terrence MAK has been established. CINTEC organized a press conference for the plaque presentation ceremony of that Centre on 4 April 2014. Prof. Pak Chung CHING, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, CUHK and Ms. JoZell JOHNSON, Global Higher Education Director, Intel Corporation were invited to be the officiating guests.

CUSCS Programme and Seminar

Prof. K.F. Wong gave a talk, ‘產學研之間的合作’, to the delegates of Harbin Institute of Petroleum on 9 April 2014. He also gave a speech, ‘科技與創新管理的新模式’, during the Training Programme for Harbin Institute of Petroleum on 14 May 2014.

IT Exploration Tours for Secondary Students

CINTEC has been commissioned by the Government to organize IT Exploration Tours for secondary 4 and 5 students during this year’s IT Fest. The IT Exploration Tours were successfully held during 14-17 April 2014. A total of 413 students and 45 teachers attended the events. The programme was organized to stimulate students’ interest in IT. Participants were arranged to explore IT facilities at CUHK and at Science Park. CINTEC also arranged young CEOs of IT start-ups to share with the students in casual settings.

OUTREACH ACTIVITY

Asia Pacific Cloud Application & Smart City Forum

On 13 April 2014, Prof. K.F. Wong represented CUHK and attended the Asia Pacific Cloud Application & Smart City Forum at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Forum, which included two topics, Cloud Innovative Applications and Smart City Applications, was organized by APCA and HKITJC.

Networking Luncheon with Alliance for the Commercialization of Canadian Technologies (ACCT Canada)

Prof. K.F. Wong, Director of CINTEC, attended a networking luncheon with Mrs Janet Scholz, President and CEO of Alliance for the Commercialization of Canadian Technologies (ACCT Canada) on 25 April 2014. The luncheon was hosted by Mr. Ralph Chow, Director of Product Promotion, HKTDC. Representatives of the IT industry exchanged the latest developments of innovation and technology transfer in Canada and Hong Kong.

HKTDC Entrepreneur Day

The HKTDC Entrepreneur Day was held on 2-3 May 2014. Prof. K.F. Wong represented CUHK and attended the Cyberport x Microsoft – Emerging Technology and Fundraising from Global Perspective Forum cum Pitching on 2 May. He also visited young entrepreneurs in the Entrepreneur Arena. On 3 May, Prof. Wong attended the Cyberport Entrepreneurship Programmes Graduation Ceremony cum Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong Start-Ups Fundraising Forum.

Legislative Council – Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting

A special meeting of Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting was held on 3 May 2014 to discuss the establishment of the Innovation and Technology Bureau. Prof. C.H. Luncheon hosted by the Secretary for Education

On 7 May 2014, Prof. K.F. Wong represented CUHK and attended the luncheon hosted by Mr. Eddie Ng, Secretary for Education. The luncheon was to discuss the Fourth Strategy on Information Technology in Education (ITE4) which aims to be launched this year.

Installation Ceremony of the 5th President of OUHK

Prof. K.F. Wong attended the Installation Ceremony of Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong, the 5th President of the Open University of Hong Kong on 13 May 2014.

British Computer Society (BCS) Dinner

The BCS (Hong Kong Section) Annual Dinner this year was held on 16 May 2014. Prof. K.F. Wong, as the VIP guest, attended the dinner and met with IT professionals, engineers and academics to share new developments and experiences.

Pitching Day & Celebration Party for Cyberport Winners in HKICT Awards 2014

Prof. C.H. Cheng, Deputy Director of CINTEC, was invited to the Pitching Day & Celebration Party for Cyberport Winners in HKICT Awards 2014 on 19 May 2014. 31 Cyberport Winners and representatives of the Government also joined the celebration party.

The 16th Annual Meeting of CAST

Prof. K.F. Wong, representative of the Faculty of Engineering of CUHK, attended the 16th Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) in Kunming. The meeting was co-sponsored by CAST and People’s Government of Yunnan Province and was held on 23-26 May 2014 with the theme of innovation and industrial upgrading.
