Promotion of Work Study

In order to strengthen promotion of work study (1-year-internship) to engineering students, CINTEC works with all engineering departments to arrange internship talks at ENGG2600 classes. Besides talking on 13 January to EE, CE and BME students (as shown in photo), Mr KY Leung, Associate Director of CINTEC, gave presentation on internship to SEEM students on 6 January, and has established arrangements for CSE, MAE, and IE students for delivering similar talks in February.

 

Recruitment talks & Career talk

In January, second term just started, five recruitment talks were held, included DBS Bank for graduate, and Disneyland for work study, they attracted approximately 70 students respectively. Moreover, an alumni of department of IE (IEAA) delivered a career talk to CUHK students on 22 January 2014.

 

EXHIBITION

Student Achievements in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Exhibition 2014

Presented by The Committee on Advancement of Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CASIE), CINTEC coordinated the ‘Student Achievements in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Exhibition 2014′ for showcasing the winning projects of the ‘13th National Challenge Cup’ as well as the ‘Vice-Chancellor’s Cup for Student Entrepreneurship (VCCE) 2012-13’ Competition, total nine projects.

In November 2013, a crew of RTHK visited CUHK booth at InnoCarnival, they interviewed Prof Ruxu Du’s research student, Miss Candy Lau, introducing the project of Robotic fish, and interviewed Prof KF Wong, introducing the programmes of Faculty of Engineering. CONFERENCE

EE hosted Croucher Advanced Study Institute on Printed Electronics with near 200 participants

CINTEC has supported EE colleagues to host the Croucher Advanced Study Institute on Printed Electronics on 9-11 December 2013, on CUHK campus. CINTEC provided comprehensive logistics services, from event preparation to onsite support to ensuring smooth and professional delivery of the workshop.  Near 200 scientists, scholars, researchers and students worldwide came to CUHK campus to attend this event.

 

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

Shunde Enterprises (順德龍騰企業) Delegation Visit

CINTEC received a delegation from Shunde, Guangdong Province. Around 40 industry representatives visited CUHK on 17 December 2013. After a meeting with Prof KF Wong, CINTEC arranged two laboratory tours, they were Institute of Precision Engineering and Advanced Materials Processing Laboratory.

 

China Fiber Optic Network System Group Ltd Delegation Visit

The Chairman, Executive Director and some representatives from China Fiber Optic Network System Group Ltd visited CINTEC on 20 December 2013. They visited CUHK laboratories relating to optics and they were much impressed by the work of our research team led by Prof Hon Tsang.

SmarTone Delegation Visit

Mr Patrick KL Chan, Executive Director and Mr Stephen Chau, Chief Technology Officer of SmarTone visited CINTEC on 23 January 2014. They shared SmarTone’s latest developments in telecommunications to create and develop valuable experiences for its customers and to cultivate innovations in technology with Prof KF Wong.

 

CUHK ACTIVITY

Inauguration Ceremony of ‘I.Emperor’ (20th Information Engineering Society)

As invited by the Information Engineering Society, Prof KF Wong represented Faculty of Engineering to give a speech in their inauguration ceremony on 23 January 2014.

 

OUTREACH ACTIVITY

InnoAsia – Tech Forum 6: Innovative Energy Technologies

“Towards a smart green city agenda” is the theme adopted by InnoAsia 2013. The four-day conference played an important role in knowledge transfer and business matching, linking a circle of leading academics, experts, decision makers and thought leaders from across disciplines and geographical boundaries to exchange insights on energy optimization, renewable resources, carbon footprints reduction, green architecture, advanced robotics, healthcare and transportation system. As the co-organiser of Tech Forum 6, Prof KF Wong represented CUHK to give an opening address on 6 December 2013.

Except Prof KF Wong, Prof King-lap Wong (left) & Prof Yi-chun Lu (right) from MAE were also the speakers of Tech Forum.

 

「卓育菁莪」生涯規劃講座 (Talks for two Secondary Schools students)

Prof KF Wong represented the Faculty of Engineering to give a talk at Buddhist Sin Tak College and Lions College on 12 and 13 December 2013 respectively.

 

Mentorship Programme for the Internet Learning Support Programme

Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA) visited CINTEC on 20 December 2013, to explore collaboration in recruiting engineering students for providing voluntary support to their mentorship programme for junior students.
Prof KF Wong represented CINTEC to attend the first ILSP Programme Advisory Committee meeting on 23 January 2014.

Hong Kong Tech Challenge Game 2013 「香港工程挑戰賽2013」

As invited by the Hong Kong Technology Education Association to be the officiating guest of the Hong Kong Tech Challenge Game 2013, Prof KF Wong gave a speech and presented awards to the students in the Prize Giving Ceremony on 22 December 2013.

 

Hong Kong Olympiad in Information 2014

HKOI is an annual software competition for secondary students, co-organized by the Hong Kong Association of Computer Education (HKACE) and Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB). Prof Ho-fung Leung, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was arranged by CINTEC, to give a speech and to present awards in the prize-presentation ceremony on 10 January 2014.
