License
One common way of technology transfer is licensing. Usually, an non-exclusive right to use the technology in specific products or services may be granted to licensee at a fee. The license fee may consist of an upfront payment and a per-unit royalty fee.

Contract research
Faculty members and the industrial partner may enter into an agreement for a specific R&D project. The University may also team up with the industrial partner(s) to seek funding support from the Government. Information on typical funding schemes are available at http://www.itf.gov.hk
