The Centre for Innovation and Technology (CINTEC), formerly known as the Information Networking Laboratories (INL), was established in January 1999. Serving as a pioneer of technology transfer between the academia and the industry, INL was restructured to CINTEC with an expanded scope to cover the whole Faculty of Engineering, and the objectives to facilitate technology transfer and to help transform Hong Kong into a regional centre for innovation and technology.

We engage actively in technology transfer with aims to:

  • emerge as an advanced applied R&D center
  • actively contribute to and collaborate with industry in the development of high value added technological activities and to identify commercially relevant research topics together
  • provide high-quality training for professionals in innovative research initiatives and engineering entrepreneurship
  • foster greater collaborations with the Mainland for the advancement of state-of-the-art technology
  • provide a synergistic environment leading to innovations and technology advancement

Wisers Information Limited
The founders of Wisers came from two research projects in the Faculty of Engineering. The first project, Information Processing On Chinese (IPOC), was led by Prof. K.F. Wong, the current Director of CINTEC. The second project, Electronic News Media & Publishing System (ENMPS), was led by Prof. K.W. Cheung, former Director of CINTEC. In 1997, both projects were transferred to CINTEC for further development. The team thought of an application scenario - electronic news clipping, which was first of its kind at the time. In July 1998, Wisers was incorporated to launch the services to the market.

DINASTech
The core technology of DINASTech was originated from a research project, VIOLA, in Department of Information Engineering. The project was transferred to CINTEC in 1999 and was led by Prof. K.W. Cheung, former Director of CINTEC. In 2001, the project received angel fund from two private investors and was successfully spun-off in March 2001. DINASTech is a technology company providing infinitely scalable video-on-demand solutions.
